Today’s house building industry is a highly refined system focused primarily on sales and production by offering a pre-set package of standard designs, construction by subtrades, few real options, ‘green’ added only as a marketing ploy, and little response to your specific individuality.

The House Company’s focus is on design and high quality construction. We do not compromise our architectural values to high production, but rather seek to produce in each project a result that suits our client s’ wishes to the finest details. This is accomplished through a process of discussion, original concept drawing, and refinements made in collaboration, which only ends when the Clients are satisfied. Control of budget is possible during this process because we are thoroughly familiar with current building costs.

We design to suit site conditions whether they are infill in established neighbourhoods, new subdivisions, or rural areas. Our design work has been built in and out of Edmonton, and as far away as California. We do not have a set style, but rather strive to produce thoughtful and informed work, our preference being the Modern idiom. We design all cabinet and built-in millwork and consult on finishes and colour. We offer you choice from a very broad range of fixtures, materials, and hardware and encourage creative solutions. The range of options for sustainability can be confusing and misleading, but we can advise you on the best path to achieving a low ‘footprint’.

We rely on construction management, meaning that we set a budget for each project, but cannot guarantee prices because, in the present market, quotes to us are good for a short period only, and then expire, leaving the possibility of increases open. The project manager and design team work together through the project to ensure the spirit of the design is fulfilled. All carpentry is done by our own crews, and we work consistently with the same sub-trades, which we have chosen from many years experience. Their familiarity with our standards results in exceptional quality with a minimum of conflict and delay.

Full blueprint services and city permit procurement are handled. We are experienced with ‘healthy house’ techniques, and smart house installations.
